Oldonyo Lengai Overview

Oldonyo Lengai, known as the “Mountain of God,’ is an active volcano located in Northern Tanzania near Lake Natron. It holds spiritual sinificance for the Maasai people and offers a unique trekking experience for adventurers. The summit provides breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley, Mount Kilimanjaro, Lake Ntron, and the volcanic landscape. This trek is physically demanding due to the steep slopes, but it is highly rewarding for those seeking a memorable adventure.

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron

  • Morning:

    • Depart from Arusha after breakfast for a scenic drive to Lake Natron (approx. 6-7 hours).
    • Enjoy stunning views of the Great Rift Valley, Maasai villages, and wildlife along the way.
  • Afternoon:

    • Arrive at your lodge or campsite near Lake Natron.
    • Have lunch and relax.
  • Evening:

    • Take a guided walk to the shores of Lake Natron to see flamingos and other wildlife.
    • Dinner and early rest in preparation for the trek.

Day 2: Oldonyo Lengai Trek and Return to Arusha

  • Midnight:

    • Begin the ascent of Oldonyo Lengai with your guide under the starlit sky.
    • The climb is steep and challenging, taking approximately 5-6 hours to reach the summit.
  • Early Morning:

    • Reach the summit in time to witness a spectacular sunrise with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
  • Morning:

    • Begin the descent, which takes 3-4 hours.
    • Return to your lodge or campsite for breakfast and a brief rest.
  • Afternoon:

    • Drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening.
