Kitulo Nation Park is the first National Park in the tropical of Africa to be established primarily for its floristic importance, Kitulo National Park has a has a vast expense of rolling upland grassland, rounded hills stretching towards the water falls, forests, rivers and craters lakes. Kitulo is at an elevation of 2600 meters and that’s between the peaks of Kipengere and Poroto mountains and also covers an area of 412.9 square kilometers. Kitulo is one of the leading natural reserves, Kitulo is located in the southern part of Tanzania.
Kitulo is also called the “Serengeti Flowers’’ because it’s a home for more than 400 flower species. The Kitulo plateau has more than 40 orchids, geophytes, aloes, prokas, geraniums, lilies, asters daisies as well as many more afro-alphine plants. You can find that Kitulo is very attractive during rainy seasons that is from November to April.
The Orchids were in the verge of being extinct because of the threats that had. There are cultures that harvest the Orchids bulbs for food. They take the Orchids bulb and prepare them by drying them then beat and cook them. They are traditional delicious and they are eaten so as to increase qualities and collecting of Orchids. Together hence the kitulo National Park has become a protection of the Orchids.
It’s best to visit Kitulo Plateau during December and April. Its best to travel during rainy season because one can experience the abundance and the array of flora.
