Overview

Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a Park that is found in the Southern part of Tanzania, The Udzungwa Mountains are located 350KM southwest of Dar es Salaam. Its only 2 hours drive from Mikumi National Park.

Udzungwa being part of the Eastern Arc Mountain, it’s a home for fascinating diversity of life, The Arc Mountain that are Famous for high concentration of endemic of animals and also plants are very important biodiversity hotspot on the planet earth.
Udzungwa is a magnet for hikers, with an excellent network of forests trails that include the popular half day Ramble to Sanje waterfall.

There are more than 400 bird species, more than 1000 bird species of plants and six monkey species. There are two rare species that include the Iringa red colobus and the Sanje crested Mangabey. These rare species are only found in this Udzungwa.
Udzungwa has a good variety of animals, they are home to several animals such as elephants that live alongside the escarpments in the south, grey faced Sengi. Also, the six registered primates’ species that found in Udzungwa.

In Udzungwa there is also a unique species of roads that are only found in the Udzungwa. They are Kihansi spray toad. These toad lives around the Kihansi waterfall near the Kihansi. They were briefly extinct in the 2009 wild. They successfully managed to reintroduced them back after successfully breeding them.

Activities in Udzungwa

Sanje waterfall, Udzungwa is a spot whereas one shouldn’t miss to hike in Udzungwa there are no paved roads and its only accessible on foot. One of the spots that one can enjoy during hiking, which is a spectacular 170meter cascade of which visitors can swim in Natural pools.

Travel time to Udzungwa

  • From Dar to Udzungwa – 6hours
  • Udzungwa to Mikumi- 1hour and are half
  • To Ruaha- 6hours and are half by Car

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Udzungwa is during dry season and that is June to October because you can spot animals easily and the temperature is cool during dry season. Rainy seasons are during November to May.
