Mkomazi National Park is located in the Northern part of Tanzania. It’s found in between the Kilimanjaro region an Tanga region. Mkomazi is a unique, remote and it borders Kenya in the Northeast. Also it’s part of Tsavo Eco-system. It’s in the Southern Sahara zone. Mkomazi is classic dry-land reserve of grey Nyika bushes and ancient Baobab trees as well as isolated rocky hills.
Mkomazi was established in 1951 as a game reserve and in 2006 was upgraded into a National Park.
It’s best to visit during dry season that’s from June to October, It’s the best time for general wildlife viewing. However, the park is not a prime wildlife for destructions about it’s great for Mountain and great scenery views. The best time is during a wet season, especially from November to May. During wet season on May be lucky to see Elephant migration.
The Mkomazi National Park is highly populated and has a quiet yet skittish wildlife. It is typical for Kudu, Giraffes, impalas and gazelles. In Mkomazi National Park they share park with Elephants, that come from Tsavo in Kenya.
Mkomazi National Park has a variety of birds and over 450 species of birds are found in Mkomazi National Park. Some of the birds found in Mkomazi are such as Shelley’s starting and their streaked tchagra. They are fantastic for bird lovers. This birds migration such as European rollers are in Mkomazi during November to April.
