Mahale Mountain National Park is a remote wildlife area is Western Tanzania; Mahale is situated in the far Western Tanzania on shores of the Lake Tanganyika. It is in the southern city in Kigoma. Mahale National Park got its names from then two Mountains that govern it. The Mountains are the only two protected Chimpanzee areas in Tanzania, Mahale Mountains National Parkis then only part where the Lions and the Chimpanzees live together and also where there is a large population of Chimpanzees.
Mahale Mountains rests among a spectacular, forested mountains slopes, Mahale borders Gombe in the North where is a home of some Africa’s last remaining Wild Chimpanzees with a population of about 900 wild Chimpanzees. Mahale contains at least the World’s Largest protected population of approximately (900-1000) of the eastern subspaces of the Chimpanzees.
One of the unique thing about Mahale is that it has a wide variety of habitats that it contains. Mahale is a mosaic of overlapping rainforest, woodland, bamboo, forest, Mountain Forest, and Mountain grassland which means that Mahale is able to support a unique mix of Flora and Fauna that have different habitats.
Lake Tanganyika is also part of both Mahale and Gombe and it’s the second longest and deepest lake in the World.
By flight is the best way to get to Mahale from cities such as Arusha or Dar es salaam
By boat, you can visit Mahale from Kigoma by boat, you can arrange a speedboat trip across the lake.
Its best to visit during a dry season that’s from July to October. Though Mahale can be visited throughout the year. During dry season the Chimpanzees are likely to be seen in by big group, also the sunshine illuminates the fishes in the lake and the beach is a good place to relax.
